Removal & disposal
The thickness and condition of the old slab, demolition access, and haul-off can change the scope before new concrete arrives.
A square-foot figure is a starting point, not a complete proposal. Use this guide to understand the work behind a driveway, patio, or RV-pad estimate.
These are scope factors, not verified Salem–Keizer price quotes. Request a site-specific written estimate from a construction contractor.
The thickness and condition of the old slab, demolition access, and haul-off can change the scope before new concrete arrives.
Excavation, soft ground, roots, fill, grade changes, and the base design are not the same on every property.
The intended loads, slab design, reinforcement where needed, finish, and joint work affect the proposal.
Gates, tight side yards, truck access, pump requirements, and protection of existing improvements can add work.
A basic broom finish, decorative pattern, color, border, or special edge can create different material and labor requirements.
Clarify permit responsibilities, inspections, cleanup, curing instructions, sealer, and what the contractor’s warranty actually covers.
Measure the length and width of a simple rectangular area. For irregular shapes, divide the space into smaller rectangles or ask for a site measure.
This calculates area only. It does not calculate a construction price, slab thickness, or concrete order.
| Finish direction | Why consider it | What to discuss |
|---|---|---|
| Broom finish | A practical, textured look for everyday outdoor use. | Texture, edges, joint layout, and how the surface will be maintained. |
| Stamped concrete | Patterns and color for a more decorative space. | Wet traction, color variation, joint locations, sealing, and repair expectations. |
| Exposed aggregate | A visibly textured surface with aggregate character. | Comfort underfoot, cleaning, aggregate choice, and care. |
A detailed written scope gives you a fairer basis for comparison than a low headline number alone.
For driveway replacement, separate demolition and haul-off from the new slab. For patio installation, identify access, doors and future additions. For an RV parking pad, record the loaded vehicle and support points before asking the installer for a specification.
Print the concrete quote checklist and use it with each contractor. It helps expose exclusions and allowances before you compare the final totals.
